Reduce environmental impact! Promote green tech with energy-saving valves!

What is the "Latching Solenoid Valve"?

In a conventional normally closed solenoid valve, continuous power is required to maintain the valve in an open state. In contrast, a latching solenoid valve utilizes a permanent magnet to hold the valve open without the need for continuous power. For a more detailed explanation of the latching mechanism, please refer to our technical guide on the Operation Principles of the Latching Mechanism.

Benefits of using the Latching Solenoid Valve

    • Eco-friendly and energy efficient:

A latching solenoid valve does not require continuous energization to maintain its state, making it highly cost-effective for applications where a conventional valve would need to be energized for extended periods.

    • Low heat generation limiting thermal influence on surroundings:

Since energization is not required to maintain the valve's state, heat generation is minimized, making it ideal for analytical applications and other situations where temperature effects on fluids are a concern. The "EL Series" pinch valve is one example of a product that utilizes this mechanism. Other latching solenoid pinch and diaphragm valves are also available.

  • Compact and powerful:

A large current is typically required to generate significant force in a solenoid. However, to prevent burnout, this often necessitates using a larger solenoid (i.e., with higher electrical capacitance) or limiting energization to short durations.

In contrast, since heat generation in a latching solenoid is minimized, it can achieve high power output without limitations on energization time or solenoid size. This enables a more compact design, higher pressure ratings, and the ability to operate continuously without duty cycle restrictions.

*1: When the control input transitions from low to high, the output provides a positive (+) voltage to J2 pin 1 and a negative (-) voltage to J2 pin 2. Conversely, when the control input transitions from high to low, the output provides a negative voltage to J2 pin 1 and a positive voltage to J2 pin 2. (The + and - voltages correspond to the VM input voltage.)

*2: When a high-level pulse is applied to the pulse request input, the voltage is output to the J2 pins in accordance with the current control input level. Specifically, when the control input is high, a positive (+) voltage is output to J2 pin 1 and a negative (-) voltage to J2 pin 2; when the control input is low, a negative (-) voltage is output to J2 pin 1 and a positive (+) voltage to J2 pin 2.

*3: Do not drop below ground voltage.
