Takasago Fluidic Systems held a workshop at T-HUB (Telangana, India), one of the world's largest incubation centers

In contrast to Japan, a developed country where the declining birthrate and aging of population are accelerating under a demographic burden, India is a developing country where the young population is ever-growing under a demographic bonus. Takasago Fluidic Systems aims to implement open innovation to solve these social issues by identifying the social issues of these two contrasting countries, discussing them together with engineers from both countries, and creating innovation. As a first step, we held a workshop at T-Hub. T-Hub is the one of the world's largest incubation centers located in Hyderabad, India, and is an important base where...

Low flow rate type lined up for diaphragm pumps!

I would like to introduce you to the new low flow rate type diaphragm pumps, which have expanded the flow rate range. Diaphragm pumps have been used in various industries that require chemical resistance, such as medical equipment and the printing industry, and now low flow rate types are available. Previously, the flow rate was only 500 mL/min, but now we have added 180 mL/min, 200 mL/min, 300 mL/min, and 400 mL/min. You can now use a pump that is more suitable for your application. All the range uses brushless motors, which are maintenance-free and can be used for a...

Ring pump RP-Q series has taken off for a space experiment on the ISS!

We'd like to introduce a case study by BioServe Space Technologies, who adopted an ultra-compact tube pump for their cell culture system in microgravity. BioServe Space Technologies (hereinafter referred to as BioServe), an American center in University of Colorado, is developing a bioreactor for expansion of hematopoietic stem cells under microgravity conditions. For the bioreactor design, BioServe was looking for a small, reliable peristaltic pump that could perfuse media within the system at around 2 mL/min. BioServe evaluated and selected the RP-Q pump because it had the necessary characteristics and had already been used in space. They were also satisfied...

Solar-powered Portable Fluidic Unit for Diagnostic Systems

One of our company strengths is the miniaturization of fluidic devices, which can also reduce power consumption as a result. Takasago has developed a demo IVD (In-Vitro Diagnostics) unit that is powered just by an A4 size solar panel. This is for our customers to realize how small the power requirement can be. At medical shows including COMPAMED and MD&M West, we demonstrated this solar-powered unit for carrying out basic immunodiagnostic processes even in places with no other power supply, for example, in developing areas. As the unit employs a disposable chip, it is easy to change the flow diagram...

    Automated 3D Perfusion System 【Under Development】

Suitable for 3D tissue cultivation Conventional perfusion methods use basically the same structure as static cultivation and just replace a medium slowly and continuously, where the flow of the medium only passes over the layer of cells. Our new system utilises cell culture inserts and enables 3-dimensional perfusion that can permeate through tissues or spheroids, and makes the culture closer to an in-vivo condition. The 3D perfusion has following advantages: Culture medium reaches deeper parts of tissues or spheroids in comparison to conventional perfusion methods, possibly keeping them active for longer. Sequential reactions can be expected because secretions from upstream...

    Ultra-small Dispensing Module (Under Development)

This module meters liquid for dispensing. Every time the button on the controller (external input also possible) is pushed, the module releases the liquid metered by the sample loop from the needle. Its small dimensions of 38.3 x 41.3 x 37.4mm and light weight of approx. 25g enable it to be mounted on moving elements. (Please refer to the flow diagram below for the configuration.) This is just an example of valve modules using our SMV series of shape memory alloy driven ultra-slim valves. The use of SMVs realises significant miniaturisation of various valve modules. In addition, prices are competitive,...

Useful Fluidic Items for MicroTAS & Life Science

Special Campaign for Miniature Low-cost Valves! Takasago is developing a tiny shape-memory-alloy-driven valve for microTAS applications like POCT, and is going to launch mass-production next year, which we believe will contribute to a significant cost reduction. The price for this valve is expected to be at a disposable level. We will be exhibiting the valve at the microTAS conference held in Korea on October 25 - 29, 2015, and will be conducting a special campaign at the exhibition. With this campaign, you can receive a functioning sample valve free of charge to try in your application by filling out a...
